4th Symposium of the RTG 2723
Materials - Microbes - Microenvironments (M-M-M)

1-2 October 2026
Senatssaal, University's Main Building
Fürstengraben 1, 07743 Jena

The fourth M-M-M Symposium of RTG 2723 brought together researchers from different fields of materials science, microbiology and biomedical research and featured three outstanding guest speakers:

  • PD Dr. Katrin Hurle, Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg: “Calcium phosphate cements modified with antibiotics or antimicrobial ions”
  • Prof. Dr. Meytal Landau, Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) Hamburg: "Virulent and antimicrobial amyloids in infections and neurodegeneration”
  • Prof. Dr. Joanna Raczkowska, Jagiellonian University Krakow, Poland: “Polymer films for biomedical applications”

In addition to the contributions of the invited experts, doctoral researchers from the RTG presented their research results in oral presentations or on posters, providing valuable insights into the diverse research activities within the programme.

Another highlight of the symposium was the workshop on QMS systems led by Lina Kehl. The workshop gave an overview of the different QMS systems "Good Manufacturing Practice" (GMP), "Pharmaceutical Qualitry System" (PQS) and "Good Laboratory Practice" (GLP) and promoted an understanding of GMP through practice-oriented examples, as well as an understanding of the terms and abbreviation used in job advertisements in the pharmaceutical industry.

The two-day symposium created a stimulating environment for scientific exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue and networking. We would like to thank all speakers, researchers and participants for their valuable contributions and for making the fourth M-M-M Symposium a successful and inspiring event.
