Visit to the Intensiv Care Unit at Jena University Hospital
Intensive Care Station
Image: Adobe StockDuring our visit to an intensive care unit in Jena, we first received a comprehensive theoretical introduction to the definition and clinical concept of sepsis, including current treatment strategies. This session provided valuable insights into the complexity of sepsis management in a clinical setting and was highly informative.
Following the introduction, we were given the opportunity to learn about ongoing and individual patient cases on the unit. We also visited a patient room, where we were shown the typical setup of an intensive care unit and gained an impression of how critically ill patients are monitored and treated.
These experiences were particularly impressive and provided important practical context for our work on the development of improved biomaterials.
